Favourable Climate

Climate
  • This crop needs hot and humid climate and it is suited for region with prolonged sunshine and plenty of water.
  • More than 65 to 75 % humidity is good for rice.
Temperature
  • Rice crop needs an average temperature of 21 to 35°C 
  • It can tolerate 40 to 42°C at the maximum.
  • It has been observed that each stage of the cultivation process demands a different temperature range such as sprouting (10°C), Flowering ( 23°C ), blooming (26-29°C), grain formation (21 °C) and ripening ( 20-25 °C). 
Crop Water Requirements
  • Adequate and well distributed rainfall during the growing season is essential for maximum yield and quality of Rice. 
  • Rice is grown in areas receiving more than 800 mm rainfall.

Nursery Preparation

Nursery Preparation
  • For transplanting in 1 acre area, 0.1 acre (4 Guntha) nursery is required
  • Prepare raised beds with 1.25 m width 10 cm height and long as convenient
  • Apply 250 kg FYM, 1 Kg Urea before planting.

Seed Treatment

Treat the seeds with-

  • Chlorpyriphos- 4 ml

Instructions – Mix the above quantity in two L of water for two kg of seeds. Dip the seeds in solution for 10 min & then shade dry for 15 min.

  • Carbendazim – 2 gram 

Instructions – Treated seeds are to be again treated with the Carbendazim 2 gram for 1 kg of seeds. Apply it on seed by rubbing it on seed surface.

Land Preparation

Land Preparation
  1. Ploughing method – Plough the land 1 or 2 times based on soil type.
  2. Mix the following in field, and keep it in open air for 10 days for proper decomposition – 
    1. FYM – 2 tons
    2. Composting Bacteria – 2kg
  3. Spread the above mixture over soil and run rotavator to the entire field making the soil as a fine tilth.
  4. Use markers (rope with tied knot) to help transplanting at required spacing.

Transplanting

  • Transplanting is done for 30 to 40 days old seedling.
  • Seedling height 12 to 15 cm
  • Put 2 seedling in one hill and for hybrid put 1 seedling in one hill.

  • At sowing apply -109  kg Urea + 312 kg SSP +  83 kg MoP 
  • 30 days after sowing – 54.5 Kg Urea 
  • 60 days after sowing – 54.5 Kg Urea 

For Hybrid Rice

Total requirement: 120:50:50 kg NPK per acre. 

  • At sowing apply-130  kg Urea + 312 kg SSP +  83 kg MoP 
  • 30 days after sowing – 65 Kg Urea 
  • 60 days after sowing – 65 Kg Urea 

Irrigation

  • Flood – Keep the waterlogged condition during vegetative growth.
